SDK+ documentation can be found from http://maemo-sdk.garage.maemo.org/docs.html. Installation instructions also contain some good tips. Check especially chapter 5 - TEST MAEMO SDK+ on build applications. As a sample they use MaemoPad just like in the reference manual.
